Risks of Internet youth socialization
Abstract
The level of youth involvement in Internet has been estimated on the base of empirical studies of leading domestic and foreign research centers. The analysis of Internet influence on the youth socialization showed on the one hand, positive effects (advantages) of cybersocialization of young people were highlighted: unlimited access to educational portals; opportunity for creativity, self-expression; the potential to become a participant in the process of creating and spread of information; development of communication skills. On the other hand, the authors analyzed the negative effects (risks) of Internet youth socialization: unregulated access to destructive content; involving teenagers in suicidal social groups; the growth of social escapism among the youth; the spread of internet addiction and information fatigue. The results of the analysis demonstrated that due to the lack of deep, all round theoretical approach, there is a need for a deeper, comprehensive theoretical approach which analyses risks and opportunities of Internet youth socialization and is capable to comprehensively describe the effects of cybersocialization of youth.
