In the article based on the analyses of the works of leading Western scientists, classics of sociology, a description of the socio-historical path of the formation and development of the concept of cultural determinism is given/ Special attention is paid to the significance of substaining the active approach in culture formulated by modern Russian philosophers of culture in the late 70s of the last century. The authors, not without reason, believe that the active approach gave a natural impetus to the sociological study of cultural determinism. In this regard, the article presents the main directionsof possible specific sociological studies of cultural determination, it is emphasized that the conceptual scheme of such studies is associated with themultifunctional content of culture, where the functions of culture determines the essence of the actors of cultural determinism. In this regard, the articleshows the possibility through cultural determinism to influence the strengthening of national culture, to promote the sovereignty of the Russian State.
